Environment:

Occurs in the clinkers of melted wood ash found in partly burned trees, mainly hemlock and fir, in the forests of the western United States. Dimorphous with fairchildite.

Name Origin:

Named for Johann Adam Otto Butschli (1848-1920), professor of zoology, Heidelberg, Germany, who studied the double carbonates of K and Ca.
